Ryan surprisingly (to me anyway) swam in the prelims for the 200 free only and skipped the prelims for the 100 back. So surprised. Anyway, Ryan did very well in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.51.
Here are the top 8 finishers:
1. Michael Phelps - 1:46.31
2 Peter Vanderkaay - 1:46.42
3. David Walters - 1:46.46
4. Ryan Lochte - 1:46.51
5. Ricky Berens - 1:46.59
5. Davis Tarwater - 1:46.59
7. Daniel Madwed - 1:47.31
8. Daniel Beal - 1:47.81
Six guys all with times close together in the 1:46 range. The finals should be very interesting!
I hope Ryan's decision to drop the 100 back was planned and not because he's feeling poorly today.
I'm still so impressed with Tyler Clary's 400IM swim last night. He was improving so much this year and he did so well at the NCAAs that I knew he would be a huge factor in the race. Nevertheless, I never thought he would drop that much time or that his breaststroke would be so good, especially in a long course event. He made the race so much more exciting.
Maybe Tyler can give Michael Phelps the same kind of run in the 200 fly tonight.

'm sad that he's not going to be swimming the 100 back, I hope that someone asks him why did he choose the 200 free insted, I really felt that he had a chance at gold in the 100 back, the 200 free his chances are silver at most.
