Ryan did well in Saturday's prelims, making the A finals in both the 100m fly and the 200m back and making the B final in the 50m free.

In the 100 fly he finished 4th, with a time of 54.82.  The top 7 qualifiers in this event were within 1 second of each other.  It should be an exciting final.

Ryan also finished 4th in the 200 back, with a time of 2:02.57.  That's about what his prelim time was at the Ultraswim (I think), so that is pretty good.  It will be interesting to see how he does in the finals.

In the 50 free Ryan finished tied for 12th with a time of 23.68.  All of the top 18 qualifiers were very close and other than Nathan Adrian's 22.5, which was the fastest prelim time, only .78 seconds separates the 2nd fastest from the 18th fastest qualifier.

Finals tonight at 5 p.m. PDT.  Watch live and get live results at www.swimnetwork.com

Something to look forward to: Ryan to compete in 50m Free Competition & Open Water Race in October

http://www.dailynewsofopenwaterswimming.com/2010/06/gold-medal-speed-scheduled-in-tiburon.html

Ryan is competing in the RCP Tiburon Mile in San Francisco Bay on October 16-17, 2010. Ryan is going to swim the open water event! So cool.

The night before the open water mile race, Ryan is going to compete in a 50m sprint elimination event like the JAX50. Also competing will be Matt Grevers, Nathan Adrian, Ben Wildman-Tobriner, Garrett Weber-Gale, Cesar Cielo, Fred Bousquet and Josh Schneider. The competition will be held in a 25m SC pool.

There's a $10k prize at stake for both events.

Read all about it in the article linked above.

Ashley Gangloff's Blog on Professional Swimming and Santa Clara Grand Prix

I've always been really curious about what it would be like to be a professional swimmer but there's so little information out there about it.....until now. Ashley Gangloff, wife of Olympian Mark Gangloff, is writing a fabulous blog all about their life.

http://everydayolympian.blogspot.com/

It's really great. Thanks to Ashley for being brave enough to share this information with swim fans. The entries on this site that have received the most interest are the ones about professional swimming. Fans are intrigued and it's so great to finally have a direct source of information!

I've been really busy with life lately, having moved to a new house and work is crazy. There has not been much Ryan Lochte swimming news to write about but the Santa Clara GP is coming up next week - June 17-20 ! I will be on vacation from June 10-20, but will try to write about Santa Clara if I can.

Really hoping Ryan will swim the 200 IM. Prayer circle!
