Missouri Grand Prix - Sunday Scratch

Ryan scratched the only event he was entered in today at the Missouri Grand Prix...the 100 free. Hope everything is OK.

Don't know when Ryan is swimming again, but the Florida Spring Senior Championships are scheduled for February 25-28 in Orlando. He swam in this meet last year so maybe he'll enter again this year.

Missouri Grand Prix Finals - Saturday, Feb. 13

Ryan swam in the finals last night and did well, particularly in the 100 back.

Here are the results:

50m free

  1 Hayden, Brent 22.56
2 Kishida, Masayu 22.77
3 Copeland, William 22.85
4 Burnett, Simon 23.33
5 Clark, Bennett 23.41
6 Lochte, Ryan S 23.50
7 Weber-Gale, Garrett 23.69
8 Cambindo, Juan 23.91
100m back

What I liked about the 100 back was that Ryan's last 50 was faster
than
anyone else's...27.70.

Missouri Grand Prix Prelims - Saturday, Feb. 13

After skipping last night's finals, Ryan swam in this morning's prelims in both the 50 free and 100 back. He qualified for tonight's "A" final in both. Here are the results:

50m free prelims
1 Hayden, Brent 23.04
2 Copeland, William 23.23
3 Kishida, Masayu 23.43
4 Burnett, Simon 23.58
5 Clark, Bennett 23.69
6 Lochte, Ryan 23.71
7 Weber-Gale, Garrett 23.90
8 Cambindo, Juan 23.93

100m back prelims
1 Thoman, Nicholas 56.43
2 Hawes, Matthew 57.32
2 Schirk, Patrick 57.32
4 Russell, David 57.34
5 Lochte, Ryan S 57.64
6 Konarzewski, J 57.76
7 Pereira, Thiago 57.79
8 Janusaitis, Vyt 58.06

In the 100 back, Ryan really went for it on the first 50. His split was 27.92, which was way faster
than everybody else. Nick Thoman's first 50 was the next fastest at 28.66.

Like yesterday, I wanted to compare Ryan's times in these prelims with last year to see how he is
doing. Last year Ryan didn't swim the 50 free. In the 100 back, he had a 56.39 in the prelims and a
55.16 in the finals. Faster last year but we'll see what happens in tonight's finals.

Finally an article about Ryan's knee injury, with the headline "Lochte busts a move, breaks his knee."
So happy someone from the press finally asked him about his injury.

Ryan scratched Friday's finals

Just heard that Ryan scratched his finals for tonight's Missouri Grand Prix. He did really well in the prelims, so that should give him an indication of where he is at in training. Some people who are at the meet said it looked like he was limping after one of his races. Hopefully he is not injured!

Missouri Grand Prix - Prelim Results 2/12/10

The Missouri Grand Prix started today. Unfortunately Michael Phelps could not make it due to the blizzard on the east coast earlier this week. There are still a lot of Olympians there: Garrett Weber-Gale, Eric Shanteau, Ous Mellouli, Thiago Pereira and Ryan. Also, Nick Thoman from the national team is there.

Ryan swam the prelims for two events this morning, the 200m free and the 100m fly. He placed 4th in the 200m free and tied for 3rd in the 100m fly. Here are the results:

200m free prelims 2/12/10

1 Hayden, Brent 1:51.42
2 Johns, Brian 1:52.23
3 Di Giorgio, Ale 1:52.43
4 Lochte, Ryan 1:52.66
5 Mellouli, Ous 1:52.87

100m fly prelims 2/12/10

1 Kishida, Masayu 54.50
2 Russell, David 54.92
3 Janusaitis, Vyt 55.25
3 Lochte, Ryan 55.25
5 Pereira, Thiago 55.52

Also in the "A" final: Nick Thoman & Bradley Ally.

This is Ryan's first meet since last summer's world championships in Rome. For the sake of comparison, at last year's Missouri Grand Prix Ryan swam a 1:54.19 in the prelims of the 200 free and didn't make the "A" final. He swam a 55.08 in the 100 free and finished 2nd in the final. He seems to be on pace with his training from last year and we all know how well that turned out!

Finals start at 5:30 p.m. CST and can be watched live at www.swimnetwork.com

Interview with Ryan's Coach, Gregg Troy

This interview appeared today on the swimmingworld.tv website: http://www.swimmingworld.tv/episodes/2010/1/6/mss-gregg-troy.html

In the interview, Coach Troy says Ryan is back in the water and training following "minor" surgery, although he hasn't been able to do a breast stroke kick yet. Ryan will enter a meet in February. My guess is the Missouri Grand Prix. It will be great to see Ryan competing again, but mostly I'm happy for all the fans who are planning to go to that meet.
