Ryan in 200m Free Finals on Monday

This is going to be a tough race, probably the most difficult race on Ryan's schedule.  Here is the field from London2012.com:

01Great Britain RENWICK Robbie1:46.65+
02United States of America LOCHTE Ryan1:46.31+
03Republic of Korea PARK Taehwan1:46.02+
04People's Republic of China SUN Yang1:45.61+
05France AGNEL Yannick1:45.84+
06Germany BIEDERMANN Paul1:46.10+
07Russian Federation IZOTOV Danila1:46.65+
08Australia FRASER-HOLMES Thomas1:46.80

Many of these same swimmers were in the 200 free finals in Shanghai last year.  Park, Agnel, Biedermann and Izotov were all there.  Ryan beat all of them along with Michael Phelps.  Sun did not swim the 200 free in Shanghai but his best event is the 1500 free.  He is supremely talented, but hopefully the 200 is too short of a distance for him.  Agnel worries me after what he did to Ryan tonight in the relay, but Ryan is a much better 200 swimmer than 100 so hopefully he will prevail.  I do not want to overlook Park and Biedermann, who are also equally capable of winning.

No matter the outcome, it is going to be a great race.  I'm just hoping Ryan will come out on top.

I didn't know it was possible to be so happy and so disappointed at the same time. Happy for Yannick who did an amazing race and represented France so well last night and today.

But Ryan's 4th place made me so sad. It really was a bad swim coming from him. 1.45 just is not enough for someone like him.

I hope he can get over it and win the 200 back and 200 IM. I thought it was ok after the relay last night but it seems like it was not.

Thank you for your comment. Congrats to Agnel and France for both of his tremendous swims.

As for Ryan, I hope he will be able to put the disappointment of the 200 free and the 400 free relay behind him and gain confidence for the 800 free relay. It's going to be a tough race between the US and France. I guess you will be happy if either team wins!
