Stroke Kings reality show - Still on, but Ryan is out

This article confirms what we've suspected for a while, that Ryan Lochte has dropped out of Stroke Kings, the reality show that will air on Universal Sports at some point. The show will now concentrate on Ed Moses and his quest to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.

It sounds like a really great show for any swimming fan. I'm going to watch it even though it's a little disappointing that Ryan is no longer involved.

Stroke Kings, originally conceived to co-star and standout American swimmer Ryan Lochte, was set to debut on Universal Sports in early July. Lochte has since bowed out, pushing the start date back and leaving Ed to anchor a show that, according to the show’s Facebook page, "delves into the rigorous training of Olympic swimmers who struggle to resist being consumed by the seductions of celebrity and overcome personal hurdles."

While he is not at liberty to disclose exactly who will be some of the other swimmers involved in the show, Ed has said that Stroke Kings will feature a host of international athletes that "will really open up the sport of swimming worldwide."

"The whole show started with how I wanted to do this comeback," Ed says. "I wanted people to see what kind of person I am and just show people that I’m no different, that I came up from the same roots that most people did that get into sports,"

Ed believes heightening the entertainment value of swimming is a step in the right direction of expanding the audience of -- and therefore the endorsement opportunities for -- swimmers. "That’s the goal of everything that I’m trying to do with Universal," he says.

Along with Stroke Kings, Ed says he has "several other shows" with swimmers and other athletes that he hopes to get up and running prior to the Olympics next summer.

Stroke Kings reality show delayed?

I've been told by someone who heard directly from Universal Sports that Stroke Kings (the reality show starring Ryan Lochte and Ed Moses) is not dead, it's just delayed.

That's great news. The trailer looked really professional, like someone spent a lot of money on development. Speedo and USA Swimming are sponsors and they would make sure it represents and promotes the sport of swimming. The storyline is very interesting in the year before the Olympic trials. Hopefully it will air soon.

Stroke Kings reality show starring Ryan & Ed Moses appears to be dead

First the promo video was deleted.

Next the promotional poster and many references to Ryan were deleted from the facebook page.

Nothing has been done to promote viewership and it was supposed to air on Universal Sports starting on July 11.

It no longer shows up on Universal Sports' schedule for July 11. It was replaced in the 7:30 - 8:00 p.m. timeslot with BMX racing highlights.

Looks like it's not going to happen. I know lots of people who were really looking forward to it. Too bad! Hopefully it just needs a little more work and they'll air it later. The promo was great.

Preview for Stroke Kings - reality show with Ryan Lochte and Ed Moses

Universal Sports or someone removed the Stroke Kings preview on youtube due to "copyright reasons." It never ceases to amaze me that Networks want viewers yet don't allow fans the ability to promote and spread the news.

This is free advertising guys.

Ryan Lochte & Ed Moses to star in realty show: Stroke Kings on Universal Sports

http://www.facebook.com/StrokeKings?sk=info

Ryan and Ed Moses have been filming a reality tv show. It has an official facebook page that provides information about the premise, which sounds really fun. The first episode airs on July 11, 2011 at 7:30 pm EDT on Universal Sports.

I wonder if those of us who do not get Universal Sports will be able to see it. I have AT&T Uverse, which currently does not offer that channel. I believe Directv will have it soon, but not until August. I know from this site that Ryan has lots of fans outside the U.S. who will want to see it. Hopefully there will be a way for us to watch it online!
