Ryan placed 1st in the "B" final with a time of 1:50.58. Michael Phelps won the "A" final with a time of 1:46.02. PVK was second with a time of 1:46.71.
Ryan was wearing a old-fashioned speedo brief whereas it looked like the other swimmers were in fast suits. Rowdy Gaines said Ryan is in hard training right now. He looked super tired at the end of his race, but he dug down and won which was really fun to watch.
Tyler Clary placed 8th in the "A" final with a time of 1:52.13, a little slower than he swam in the prelims but not much. He may be conserving for the 400IM later tonight.
ETA: Tyler Clary placed 2nd in the 400 IM. He struggled during the breaststroke and then ran out of gas at the end. Thiago Pereira won and looked really strong, even his freestyle which I've noticed in the past is his worst stroke. Thiago said afterward that he broke his arm 5 weeks ago. He made quite a recovery!
I wish Ryan had not scratched the 400 IM, but he clearly wasn't feeling it today. He looked pretty tired. Better to save it up for the 100 back tomorrow.
