Santa Clara Grand Prix - June 12 Prelims - 100 Fly & 200 Back

100m Fly
Ryan finished fourth in the prelims of the 100m fly with a time of 53.62. Not bad considering he was seeded 8th before the meet.
The top 3 finishers were Jason Dunford with a time of 53.25, Tyler McGill with a time of 53.46 and Albert Subirats with a time of 53.55. Also making the A final was Ricky Berens with a time of 53.68 and Matt Grevers with a time of 53.97.
All of these times were very close. It's going to be an exciting final.
200m Back
Ryan also finished fourth in the prelims of the 200m back with a time of 2:02.99. This is more than 9 seconds slower than his fastest time. I know he can go a lot faster in this event.
Finishing 1st was David Russell with a time of 2:01.31, 2nd was Ashley Delaney of Australia with a time of 2:01.50 and 3rd was Matt Hawes with a time of 2:02.52. Also making the A final were Eugene Godsoe, Rex Tullius (Ryan's training partner at UF) and Brian Johns of Canada.
I'm thinking the final will be all about Ashley Delaney and Ryan. It's going to be exciting.
The photo, from www.swimstars.org shows Ryan yesterday after he received his gold medal for the 400IM.

I completely gave up on SwimNetwork with no sound and the "live" results being so slow, so I can't wait for these races tonight... It really is going to be fun... From what I've seen so far Ryan really seems to be enjoying himself this time so he must be physically where he wants to be at this point... (Personally, I think he looks just fine physically!!!)

Caroline, hope you are having a blast and taking tons of pictures for us poor souls who can't be there... I'm so mad because my sister used to live in the Bay Area and moved back to the east coast or I would soooooo be there.

The prelims are so hard to follow on swimnetwork. Someone gave me some advice that really helped... Just remember that the lane farthest from the camera is lane 1 & the one in the middle with both lane lines in white is lane 5. That helped me a lot because I was spending the whole race counting the lanes.

Caroline posted some of her meet experience and a link to her photos on Daily Reezy. She is going to the meet again Sunday for the 100 back!

I'm trying to take as many pictures as I can. Though I find it hard taking pictures and trying to enjoy watching the races at the same time. Meant to take some pics from Descanza's (sp?) races but I was into just watching the race that I remembered after the heat was done. Oh well!

One thing I forgot to mention. I didn't know who was swimming in any of the heats. At least not until the announcer called their names shortly after the heat started. I wasn't even aware that I was watching Grevers during one of the heats either. Any of you girls have a link that says who is swimming which heats? The Psyh sheet was too confusing for me. I at least would like to know who is swimming in each heat before hand so I can be camera ready. Surprised I was able to get pictures of Phelps and Lochte but they were noticeable. The others were not. I also could have asked at the entrance but didn't cross my mind at the time. Will have to do that tomorrow.

Anyway, I'll post more pictures tomorrow night once I get home. As soon as I upload all the pictures on Photobucket I'll pass the links to those whenever I get the chance later on this coming week.

Caroline...don't worry about taking photos. Have fun and enjoy the races!! There must be so many places to look to take it all in when you are there.

Here's a great place to get the lane assignments for the heats:

http://competitive.santaclaraswimclub.org/Meets/2009International/Results/

By tomorrow morning they should have the lane assignments for all of the heats for Sunday's prelim events. Then once the finals are determined, the same site can show you what lanes the swimmers will be in for the finals.

I'm so excited for you that you will be going tomorrow. It should be the best day of the meet and Ryan is supposed to be swimming in 3 events (unless he drops one) and Michael Phelps is swimming in 2 events.

I found you on twitter thanks to your photo link. Hope you don't mind that I'm following you there.

Thanks for the links. Will check it out tomorrow morning before I leave. And no, I don't mind you following me. Didn't even know you were until you mentioned it. I forget to check that to be honest. Will add you in a bit.

Thanks hoipolloi for the head's up about Caroline's pics on DR... I rarely look there anymore since I'm not a member and for quite a while 98% of it has had nothing to do with either Ryan or swimming… Your blog is definitely my favorite now… Thanks again for keeping us informed!!!

Caroline, you are doing great with your pics… I totally agree, just enjoy yourself… Seriously, I would probably forget how to even use my camera if I was there in person… ha ha… FYI, the heat sheets for Sunday are already up here:

Looks like Ryan is really pumped up this time… He is going for all 3 events today… YEAHHHH… Hopefully he will do well in the prelims so he will stick around for the finals tonight… I can't believe I have a benefit tonight so I am going to have to tape them and watch them when I get home… At least several times, I'm sure… 

PS… I'm not much of a Tweeter yet but if it's okay I'm going to start following both of you and feel free to do likewise… I think I'm starting to get that it is the best way to get news quickly.

Just got home. It went by so fast today. I left wanting more. I stuck around after "the big boys" finished because I was just mesmerized by what these swimmers could do. As I had mentioned during one of my tweets today, there was this boy who held his breath under the water for the longest time. I can't even do that out of the water. And I'm not talking about beer here but the 6 to 8 packs left and right these boys were packing...I didn't know what to watch. The races or the bods, lol.

Have to agree with LzzyBee1, D.R. is a good place to go but not much info is posted for all to see which is why I think your blog is the best and on top of my list to visit for updates. So a big thank you to you Kris for all the work you put in to your blog. :)
