Men's 400m freestyle relay - July 24

There's no better way to open swimming's World Championships than with the most exciting relay in the pool. It was the race in which Jason Lezak pulled off his historic swim at the Beijing Olympics, and the U.S. has won the event at the last three Worlds.

Men's 200m freestyle - July 26
This is one of two scheduled matchups betweenMichael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, and it the race should not disappoint. It's been Phelps' best race this season and his best time in 2011 is almost 2.5 seconds faster than Lochte's. The latter is hungry to stay on his current streak (six gold medals at both the 2010 Pan-Pacs and 2010 Short-Course Worlds).

Men's 200m IM - July 28
The men's 200m IM could be the marquee race of the entire meet. Phelps had a foothold on the event for years until Lochte broke his compatriot's world record at the 2009 World Championships. He nearly lowered the standard again at the 2010 Pan-Pacs, while Phelps withdrew from the event at that meet. A showdown will most definitely occur in Shanghai.
